We were lucky enough to have a visit from author Alex T Smith today. Here is our pretty Polly meeting him for the second time and also nearly 8 years ago. He is one of our bookshop heroes. We have forever enjoyed the calamities of Claude and Sir Bobblysock. Come and get signed copies while they last. His new book ‘Murder! By Narwhal!’ would make a fab signed Christmas present. Alex T. Many years ago, my younger son came to meet Alex, whilst wearing his own beret and dog collar. Alex was so kind and gave him some hand drawn pictures of Claude the dog…we still have them. Such a fabulously kind and funny author.
I love this book!

These are some of my faves at the moment. I Follow the Fox is Rob Biddulph’s best picture book yet, so sweet and so magical. Briony May Smith’s Tiny Jenny is incredible and the illustrations of the naughty fairies and the wren family, are absolutely enchanting. I have also just finished Turtle Moon by Hannah Gold. When I first came across Hannah Gold’s debut, the Last Bear, I couldn’t believe how poignantly she portrayed the plight of Polar Bears because of climate change. It’s a story that has stayed with me. As will Turtle Moon, her latest book. I learnt so much about sea turtles but also loved the adventure element of the story. I love her passion for saving animals and raising awareness in the next generation, told through such wonderful, vivid stories. This one also teaches us to be true to ourselves and believe in all we are and what we do. ... See MoreSee Less
What would you say is the minimum age for Turtle Moon if the parent reads it to the child? I've got her other books in audiobook form but not played them yet. I have a turtle obsessed son! Xx

I was sent a prepublication proof of Annelise Gray’s first book, Circus Maximus-Race to the Death, years ago, and galloped through it. I could not put this gripping, historically fascinating, well written, adventure story down. Not only did it have a mystery element, a very vivid setting in Ancient Rome, where I could even see the cypress trees winding around the roads to the stables but also a brilliant young but strong, female protagonist. This book is one for children, teens and grown ups. I really enjoyed it. The backdrop of the gladiator ring and the nail biting chariot races, will not disappoint. I am thrilled she is coming to sign her series in the bookshop, after her talk in the Corinium Museum.
